Melody’s Path to The Mac.Robertson Girls’ High School
At InspoTuition, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Melody, a bright student who successfully gained entry into a selective school. Her journey is nothing short of inspiring, filled with determination, hard work, and insightful experiences.
When asked about her study habits, Melody likened her study style to a diligent owl, always working late into the night. She shared, “Late at night is quieter and more focused,” highlighting her preference for studying in the peace of nighttime.
Melody’s favorite study snack? “Chocolate – a sweet treat for motivation,”
Her motivation for aiming at a selective school like Mac.Rob was clear and strong.
"I found out about the school and I decided I really wanted to go. The opportunity was too good to pass up"
Initially, Melody felt unsure about the selective entry exam. “I wasn’t really confident at the start but over time I understood more about the exam and the topics I was being tested on,” she admitted. Despite her nerves on the exam day, she stayed focused. “I was really nervous but I reminded myself that I was only going to gain something and there would be no loss,” she reflected.
Post-exam, Melody wasn’t confident because she found her answers differed from her friends. However, in the end, she was pleasantly surprised. “I was quite happy because it turns out that my answers were correct and all the energy and time I spent to prepare paid off,” she noted with satisfaction.

Melody didn’t adhere to a strict study routine, balancing her school work and selective exam preparation. “I kind of went with the flow, prioritizing my school work and balancing my free time and selective preparation,” she explained. The hardest part for her was managing time, as she had to juggle multiple responsibilities while making time for activities she enjoyed.
Prior to InspoTuition, Melody had experienced group tuitions, but found the one-on-one lessons here immensely beneficial. “The one-on-one lessons in this institute help so much more than group institutes as the teacher can focus more on your specific weaknesses,” she said.
Her tutor, Ali, played a pivotal role in her preparation journey. “My tutor helped me in specific areas I was less confident in and gave me tips on how to be more prepared and ready compared to other students,” Melody shared. Techniques and tricks Ali taught her gave her an edge in the exam. She mentioned, “Some formulas and techniques I generally had trouble with were actually fine for me during the exam as my tutor had guided me through each one.”
InspoTuition helped Melody build her confidence. “My tutor really helped me get confident in areas that I would usually struggle in and this reflected in the test,” she said. Melody also highlighted, “I had trouble with quadratics but during the test I felt confident with every answer I got.”

To other students who might feel they’re not good enough for selective schools, Melody advised, “Anyone can get in if they really try. Rather than focusing on your weak points, try and excel in your strong points.”
Her advice to her past self is simple yet profound: “Don’t be afraid to ask for help and make mistakes. Be confident in your answers and in the learning you have done.”

Now that she has made it into Mac.Rob, Melody is filled with excitement and happiness. “I’m quite happy with myself and I’m excited to see what the school has to offer. I’m glad that the effort I put in paid off,” she said.
She also shared a heartfelt moment,
"I’ll never forget the feeling when my parents, my friends, and most importantly, I opened the email of acceptance."
Melody’s journey is a testament to hard work and perseverance. The guidance of her tutor, Ali, played significant roles in her success, and her story will surely inspire many other students on their own journeys.
